Subject: End Of The Regatta?

If the Regatta is moved to Dorney Lake, it will create a huge hole in Marlow's social calendar, as well as affecting peoples pride in the town. We all look forward to the event, and if you read up any guidebook on the UK any reference to Marlow will always start with the Regatta eg "The most important event to take place in Marlow , is the Marlow Regatta..." from AboutBritain.com and "..with pleasant Georgian architecture, swarms of tourists in summer and its own regatta" from the Rough Guide to England. If they want a Regatta in dorney -have one, and call it the Dorney Regatta! To have one there called the Marlow Regatta is just plain daft.

I certainly hope the regatta will not come to an end. although I have not lived in Marlow for over 25 years, the fondest memories I ahve socially are the big summer fete and the regatta.

I will find it interesting to see whether people went to watch the rowing, or for the social event.

If the latter, they'll still go to the Town regatta, not the Dorney one

Good riddance to the toffee nosed, spoilt, upper-class Henley rejects. I bet none of the posh enclosure even saw any rowing - too busy troughing on the Pims and Champers. Let's have an event that the whole town can celebrate in. Where is the sense of Marlow I keep hearing about?
