Bill: U R soooo right about the 1954 Cats. If Bill Gray haden't taken that ill fated shot from the corner in the Semi's at the State Tournament we could have been State Champs. If you remember we were ahead and had the ball. Coach Conley told the fellows to NOT shoot or lose the ball and the game was ours! The missing starters were Darryle Kouns and I believe Jim Bailey. Looking back to that year we may recall that the little school (Catlettsburg) with Tom Scott beat the Cats in football! Was this the beginning of the Boyd County-Tomcats rivalry? I remember Dick Martin (Sr.) talking about the Cow Town Fans trying to tear down the goal post and his statement was "They will never tear these goal post down. Hew was partly corrent. But they were laid down flat to the ground. Oh, Yeah, Night Comes To The Cumberlands is a great lesson on abuse of a people.
