I really enjoyed reading about the memories of the old neighborhood stores. I have a cute memory of visiting the store on the corner of Beech and Charles. It was 1971 and I was 4 years old, we didn't even live in Ashland yet, we were visiting my grandmother who lived on Beech Street. At one point my mother realized that I wasn't around and was worried sick... I had walked to that little store on my own and bought a candy necklace with imaginary money - yes, I said imaginary money. You know, I have to laugh now... I'm sure I was perfectly safe - to the amazement of my Mom, and I can't believe the clerk was nice enough to let me "steal" that candy. (Of course, Mom promptly walked me back down the street to pay up with real money) Oh, how I wish we could go back to those more simple times. Those are grand memories.
