Subject: What do you mean?
In reply to: Zari/Rasma 's message, "Just read the whole thing. Very nice fight,I must admit. Just one thing,it doesn't seem very fair..." on 13:34:48 07/09/03 Wed

There is no powerplaying. I'll show you a battle some time. There was no opposing move to this so I can't use it as an example. Here...I have a battle with Exist against the shining -hugs tipz-.

Exist -move 1-

And so, it is time for another expression in writing, this thing that I loved and did so often. This alluring practice of pen to paper, of words that flow with grace and ease. The delight of finding just the right adjective to describe a thing, the similes, the resurrecting of a old custom of language. Yet, there are so few that feel the same way as we do and it could make me cry, and so I keep writing, more and more for their part. I will not let this beauty die because it is all that holds us from the animals in my mind. There may be scientific reasons that everyone else believes but it is not so. They only possess physical beauty and sleekness, yet I posses mental beauty and sleekness and I can tell you about it. So on goes my search for the prefect words to fit in the perfect places, considering how every letter sounded and how it was shaped. I considered how the overall of my paper looked, the roundness of the ‘o’, and then I considered the movement of the words. How did they flow into each other? And someday I will conform them to speak as effortless as time. But that is not now and at this moment I am sitting with a new pen, full of ink, and a blank piece of paper. What to tell you about?

I could talk about something that I rage and love, I could tell you about expressions. How you can tell what something is feeling and thinking solely by their features. I could tell you about the different types of people and cultures. How you can walk down a street and see so many types of people united in one cause. I could tell you about emotions. How they are the water itself and how they change by the slightest hint. I could tell you about the elements, the ones that make up the world that we live in. How they conduct so many lives. I could tell you about how much rage does to the body, what adrenaline effects in the heat of battle. I could tell you about the interworking of the equine and how they fit together and where you are flawed.

But I have visited all these topics much to often, and sitting here all I want is originality. Though there is no such thing, someone that you think is original is influenced by something else, if it is very original they were influenced by many things. So goes the charade that this word carries out. It is not real, and it does not exist.

I could talk to you about existence and I could describe how it isn’t real in itself. I could confuse you, make you cry, make you angry and make you pity me but I don’t want to. I don’t know what I want to do and maybe that is because this golden pen in my hand has so much freedom to it. I look at it, shimmering in my hand and I wonder if I will ever be like Shakespeare, Poe, McCaffry, Tension and Rolling. I shake my head, it is too hard, I don’t know how they could do it. I am only a writer, doomed to be put among the ranks of those that only produced some poor books and then faded away. I have no talent to show you, only love for writing. So maybe I should stop? And I shake my head again, it is not possible for me to stop, I am hooked on this drug and there is no support group and no detoxification. People say it isn’t addictive, I disagree. It is and I am living proof.

So what will I write to you? Maybe I will tell you the story of Exist, a horse who had traveled from the lands of the Elements to find refuge at Overcast. Maybe I will tell you of a horse she met, they called her The Shining. Exist was ready, cocky and pompous about her fights now. She was growing fast and she thought she was the hottest thing to hit the arena. In some ways maybe she was right. She was a two way mirror and she was looking out. All you can see is the glass. It is one of her most important assets and if this equid ever was scared of you, which seldom happens, you could never know. Whatever I will write about, I will tell you the next time I sit here, and I put my golden pen back upon the paper and leave to go do whatever I feel like, maybe a walk on the town

And now I return, the sun fading away behind the cliffs. I sit back down at my desk and I am fresh of ideas. I will tell you about Exist and The Shining’s fight and I will write to you of her first move. Now, my golden pen kissed the paper lovingly, kindly forming the words that I draw with my hands, making them visible to the world. Listen to my story, heed my words and look for flaws.

So the conquest of Exist goes on and she fights again in a different place. Now, Exist, what has tempted you to come to this place and fight? Could it be that all this battling has changed the tide of your mind? Hells yeah it is, Exist can’t stay away. She’s that guy in the corner at a club snorting crack because he can’t stop, that’s Exist, she is an adrenaline junkie and she’s never going to stop. She may have had some losses, some horrible defeats but she had had victories, she knows what it is like to win and so she may never loose again. Nothing is stronger than the heart of a volunteer and that is what Exist is, she isn’t pushed out here on these plains, rather the first time the scent of blood hits her nose I’ll be damned if she doesn’t take off running. She’s cocky now, she has fought many adversaries and they were good, and it didn’t matter if Exist won or lost, it only mattered what she learned. If this “The Shining” is a good opponent then we will learn from her, if not she will learn from us. We are teacher, vying for a position to conduct a class and only the job interviews may tell. So bring it on, the nervous feelings, the taste of blood, the crash of bone, the military strategy, the pain of loss and the taste of victory. We’ll take it without breaking a stride.

Now Exist you couldn’t miss. You can’t miss her even if your a mile away. She’s built tough and thick no matter how you look at it, there is no flaw to this hulking physique that is characteristic to the Friesians. Her rather long head, with short ears. Her elegant, arched neck leading down to powerful sloping shoulders. Her body was compact for a draft horse but it was strong, good things come in small packages. Then again, you could hardly call her small, at 16-17.2 she’s huge. You’ll only realize that though, when she emerges to fight you. She was slinking in the shadows, low to the ground, and her hooves made sounds that would be very easy to explain, a squirrel, a bird, a fox, anything. She was down wind of you, and the zephyr lightly coated her with your scent. She threw the opposite mare’s scent under a title marked “The Shining”, she didn’t want to remember her, she wanted to fight her. If The Shining was good she would remember this battle, if not, then you’ll have a tough time convincing her you’re worth talking to.

Now, let me point out some of the flaws in you before you even law a tooth or hoof upon Exist. You are an arabian, now that might not seem like much but look deeper. Arabians might have a little bit of stamina but Exist is immensely taller than you, two hands at least. Not only that but Arabians’ muscles are nothing compared to a Friesian who is very well conditioned from battling. You are missing one rib, one lumbar vertebrae and two tale vertebrae, that will not help you except if I strike your ribs I will half to make sure I’m actually hitting one. And so, poor Shinny, you are betrayed before you even touch me by that blood that runs throughout your veins.

And so, as twilight light is enveloping this world faster and faster Exist is advancing through the woods. She is behind you and now she stops, her head in a diagonal line from you, forming an isosceles triangle with your loins, a tree, and my head. She was facing your left side, since all horses are “left handed”. The air around them was still and calm, it smelled sweetly and taking it in she caught the scent of flowers upon the wind. Now she inhaled lightly and she was only a stride away, on the edge of the forest and yet hidden in the throng of shadows. She waiting for a tense moment, muscles taught and ready not daring to breathe in. Now she sprung, her right hoof tearing the air apart with a silent wail heading straight for her loins. If she connected this would cause The Shining immense pain and to have that so early on in the battle would be a definite disadvantage that would restrict her hind-ward impulsion and thus affecting her gaits. Her left hoof was heading straight for Shining’s Point of Hip which was comprised of three bones really, the Illium, the Femurs, and the Ischium. If she hit the point of hip The Shining’s poor back hind would be useless for the rest of the battle and cause immense pain when she attempted any sort of cadence. If The Shining moved backwards Exist’s hooves, the size of saucers, would smash her ribs, breaking at least three since they were the easiest bones in the body of the equine to break. She would also hit the lateral femora fasica, a very important muscle in the moving of the hind leg. She could not rise since she had no warning and rolling was not a natural reaction to the horse and therefore could not be carried out without warning and time to prepare, two things that The Shining had not been given.

But The Shining, try and swing your hind quarters away from me and you will realize how little time you really have. Though horses cannot recalculate their complicated attacks you do have very little time and therefore my aim will only be lowered to your femur and joint of the hock. That would render your lower hind useless but most horses shrug that off and go on. Most horses also realize that it hurts like a bitch when they do put weight on it and end up on the ground whimpering. Ok maybe not whimpering, more like wailing. I might as well shoot you in the head now Shining because you’ve gotten a broken or useless leg.

Go ahead, think about it, make up some far fetched evasion but I’m gone.

She pushed off him after her attack and she only came off a couple of feet. She knew that she should stay close to him, lest she loose him and so she took about three strides back. Now she ran at him, praising Moira to god for giving her the knowledge of this attack. She darted in on his left side, swinging her hindquarters around to get a bite out of her neck, she was so close now to his neck, stopping in a cloud of dust, her hocks digging into the soft dirt. But you won’t know what hit you.

KABOOM!

And this was the point in time that she dropped the bomb on you and suddenly you realized your police forces had been checking out the wrong building on the other side of town. The bomb had been in the headquarters and you had sent them all to that hotel and fifty third street. Guess where you are? That’s right, headquarters at the corner of 10th and 9th, miles away from any help.

Translation? She faked you out and she has risen in the air slightly, knowing that The Shining would have moved back and swung her head around for the attempted bite on her neck and probably moved a little to the side. She was high enough to strike but low enough to keep her belly covered. Since horses kept their heads low when they bit anyone she has risen over The Shining’s crania. One hoof was aimed for The Shining’s crest and the other was aimed for the shoulder, hoping to hit it. If The Shining decided that she wanted to move backwards Exist would connect with your poll, seeing as you are now in a bit of a J shape, your neck being the curved part and Exist being over the tip of the J. Not only would that cause EXCRUCIATING pain but I’d probably pin your neck to the ground, breaking it. I definitely wouldn’t do that Shining. Move forward and I’ll hit your withers, shattering them with my momentum and pinching a nerve on your spinal column which would leave you temporarily paralyzed. Rise, and rise into my hooves, owie. Roll, yeah right. Move into Exist and she’ll come down right on top of you, a ton+ of horseflesh? Yeah, that’s really the best way out, not.

And so, she comes off the body of The Shining, waiting for the next attack, only a stride away, not letting her get a lot of momentum and still prepared. She may not be a cat but she was ready on the battle field, transformed into a different Exist that loves to hurt, inflict pain and win. For what? A title. Is it worth it?

-The Shining move 2 -
Oh, how I beg to differ. You keep pulling things from your ass that half of the time doesn’t make sense; fillers are just a cheap shot to make you look smart. Sure, of course I use them sometimes, but hell’s bells, I learned the hard way to not use them. So, you think you have the advantage because she’s a foot or so smaller? Think again, friend. She’s sleeker than you and can dodge better. Perhaps you are better armed, but this vixen has gone through almost twenty battles now and birthed a little ballerina. Now, don’t think she’s little miss prissy pants because she’s not, she’s been through more shit than you could ever imagine. Now who really gives a damn if you think you’re all big and mighty? Sure as hell not me. You already learned from her, as well. Just looking at her you are not the slightest bit intimidated, you are underestimating her and that is pathetic in my book. Learn to respect your adversaries, learn to honor them. Don’t throw out a bunch of chicken shit. So what if she has one less rib? One less lumbar vertebrae, two less tail vertebrae and is shorter? Look over at Tipzy here; she’s no taller than five foot one. Make sure to add that the lack of vertebrae and a rib makes many less bones to break, the longer the spine the more vulnerable it is to becoming brittle. The chances are that The Shining is going to be more flexible and faster with more stamina because that is what the Arabian is known for. So go eat your own shit, we don’t want it here. Remember how Friesians have a very lumbering gate and move slower, not at all like Arabs who have almost cutting horse agility, can spin, jump, and kick much, much quicker. When you hit its like a flash, for a Friesian its more of a dignified, noble, and almost prolonged action because of their weight and size and what they are made for!

And not all horses’ are “left-handed” just the main majority. Horses may begin left handed, but many horses that are conditioned become where they are both, just like people can with music and batons but see, you have it all wrong. When The Shining is on a battlefield she is so alert that a beetle could be spotted. She’s all tense, and ready, ready to spring at the slightest impulse. Don’t forget what you said “Now Exist you couldn’t miss. You can’t miss her even if your a mile away”. And back to this, who wouldn’t know a giant horse was behind you? It’s not like Friesians are the quietest animals around. But back to the attack, the dove carefully shifted herself towards the attack and braced herself, feeling a strong impact upon the Ilium, directly on top. That bone can't be broken from that angle by a single hoof, sorry Exist. Sorry you didn't realize the possibility that this "little Arab" could outsmart the "big bad Friesian"

Well, you said that she flinched away, meaning her visage is pulled to its maximum height, making an attack on her crest near impossible and very, very improbable. Now, how silly of you that you gave her time to move sideways, which she did rather briskly. Now, your attack is going to be way, way, way less potent than you had intended and desired, and it’s only going to affect her leg. She quivered as the blunt diamond came down on her pillar, ouch, however it wasn’t as much ouch as it could have been. Her shaft was not shattered, but the flesh was bruised and mildly torn in places. She winced as the crimson fluid caressed her shaft, but she shook it and applied weight to it rather mildly, as if testing it. She would live, definitely. Well, now it’s her turn to show you what she’s got.

With a small amount of limping she tossed her visage and snorted loudly. She sprung forth and found herself by Exist’s side, yep, she was pretty big and loud, and that’s for sure. Her lithe limbs were capable of catching up quickly when she made an error attempting to mock to motions of Exist. She was about a half of a foot away from Exist’s chassis. Slowly did she turn inwards on Exist’s left side, her gait becoming quick and choppy. It wasn’t a steep angle, just an acute angle less than 40° degrees. With one great leap forth her maw brushed against something, most likely her shoulder area. Hastily she rose to a one third descended rear and gravity pulled her down. An impact was felt, but what it was she could not tell. The target was no other than the lumbar muscles. Now, this was pretty hard to dodge because how far the muscles reached. From the Ilium to the last four cervical vertebrae, it is the longest muscle. Now, it doesn’t just sit there, no, it extends the spine, supports/raises the head and neck, is the main muscle used in kicking, rearing, jumping, and it aids in turning. Well, remember that this is a surprise attack so keep in mind what you do. The impulse isn’t going to be side step, it’s not that natural as you so lovely stated earlier. From whatever she had landed on and made contact on, she pushed herself free and found herself on Exist’s left side once again.

She once again found herself breath to breath with Exist, or so what it seemed to be. She urged herself forth despite the pinching pain edging it’s way up her shaft. She reduced weight pressure on it, but pressed on. She found herself within one and a half feet from the side of Exist, The Shining briskly swinging her hind out and rising up. She leaned as far as she could to the best of her ability, the target this time was the flat sheet-like muscle classified as the Trapezius. This time The Shining had risen to her full height, and she had attempted to move forth, to have a slight distance advantage. (As in her haunches aligned with Exist’s rib cage) The Trapezius located from the Occipital bone to the Thoracic Vertebrae, it lifts the shoulder and forehand. The chance that Exist moving with her visage carried high was slim, so the attack should have a good chance of pulling through. When a connection with something was felt The Shining found her way down and about, farther away from Exist. She had swung out so she was face to face with Exist, but around three or four paces away.

Without waiting for Exist to calculate the damage she had caused, she charged forth, her forelegs rising drastically high and her visage pressed to her frontage volumes. She came about a foot away from the visage of Exist and rose with her pillars spread to go around the adversary’s zenith. The target on either side was the Scapula or Scapula Spine or Scapula Cartilage. Any of the three would do, but the main target was the Scapula, which is the horse’s shoulder blade. She gets that and you’re all messed up, so ouch. With a quick push she was on ground again, focusing the landing on the opposite pillar rather than the other one. Her caudal flicked as she rapidly turned about to find herself within three or four yards of Exist.

She snorted rather loudly and tossed her visage, her sable globes blinking and all four supports on the ground. She was ready for whatever Exist would throw next, hopefully it wouldn’t be any more power playing (“because you’ve gotten a broken or useless leg.”) or those obnoxious fillers that go on and on about absolutely nothing pertaining to battle in itself!

-Exist's defense w/out attacks (I haven't written them -smile-) -

x. But little Shining, I beg to differ. You may think you’re hot stuff, and I may think the same of myself but your serious BULL SHIT isn’t going to scare me. Almost everything you just said can be proven wrong by doing this thing. No one really does it but I think you can handle it, we call it RESEARCH! First of all since you are an Arabian you should know what you can and cannot do. But sadly, you don’t. Let me point out some of the things wrong, number one; I may not respect my adversaries, but my confidence is going to help me reach my goals. I was just pointing out facts, that is not what I would call cocky. Underestimating your opponent is, “Now who really gives a damn if you think you’re all big and mighty? Sure as hell not me”. Number two; as I said, you may have a little more stamina but your stamina is going to help you really little if you can’t walk right and can barely move. Sleekness isn’t going to win you this battle, it may make you look good doing it but I can see your flaws in your little dances. I can tell when you miss a step or a beat. You aren’t going to play me like you did them.

You want to see that little child that is shorter than everyone try to beat up the bully. That is the image you are trying to impose upon me. I don’t agree. The only weapon that shrimp has got is cunning, and when the bully possess the same amount?

You get one lopsided fight and one beat up little kid.

If you’re going to attack my breed you should probably know what you’re talking about first. You have nothing on this topic. Friesians are made for fighting, they are study and tough. Their gate may be slower than the frenzied pace of the Arabian but let me tell you the monstrous stride she had makes up for it very nicely. Now if you were a Thoroughbred that would be a very different story since their stride is larger than a Friesians’, but you aren’t. How sad. Agility is common to the Arabian, I will give you that, but it is really a matter of opinion. Here it comes down to a good old fashioned battled of strength versus speed. And who will win?

You may think it is possible that The Shining could be insanely alert on the battle field but it isn’t that much of a change. Obviously you have never fought a battle of your own. Well I have. When you get up there you’re nervous, and yes, you are tense but your head is swimming with attacks and dodge maneuvers. Don’t say that this is only me because it isn’t. We are all the same part of a species, and maybe we have minor differences but this one is not different. It is created by the hormones that flow through your system and up to your brain. This makes you get the “head swimming in panic” feeling. This thus distorts your chemical balances making you maybe a little more alert but not by much, mostly just antsy. And let me tell you these two things are very different.

The angle that Exist attacked at was a 65-45 degree angle as I clearly remember telling you. This is not only a perfect angle to attack in and partly in The Shining’s blind spot but Exist is PERFECTLY capable of breaking your Illium from that angle. Hitting it from a 0º angle would have done nothing, but hitting it from the position she is in is gold.

You, like many others, overestimate the sidestep. This evasion is a lot more time consuming than you know. When stepping sideways the horse does not move his leg to the left and the move the right leg a step and meet his left leg with the right before taking another step. The horse actually crosses his legs, pulling off what we call a half-pass. I will give you the fact that there are many ways to sidestep but none of them will get you out of that little jam that fast. You may do a little of a shoulder in but that isn’t going to work well. But whatever, think that you can take that little hit out of there.

Yes, please, show me what you’ve got dear Shinny.

Yes you may dart in upon Exist, weave your little intricate threads of agility. They will get you nowhere fast. You said yourself that she was limping. I will give you credit that since you came all the way up to my shoulder before attack you did get over a lot of my body. You didn’t realize that I am still moving. I can get away faster since I have my momentum already going, I am not standing still. So Exist felt your hooves come down upon her gluteal fascia, a muscle on the top of the hindquarters covering the croup. Exist winced slightly as the dull impact of The Shining’s weight upon her body. She faltered a step in her cadence and then two steps later she was rid of the weight and the imposing pain as The Shining pulled off of her. She shook her crest, testing her hindquarters and moving out a little. She felt her muscles bend and flex, the superficial gluteal muscle, semitendinosus muscle, and now the gluteal fascia. She winced again, the dull pain spreading along her hind but it was nothing too bad she might be a little slower. Exist grinned lightly, so they were both hindered now.

The Shining cannot, “swinging her hind out and raising up”. When a horse moves their hind quarters they put their weight on the forehand. When a horse rears or elevates them self they put their weight on their haunches, thus freeing their forelegs to fight. So your whole attack is not firmly biased so Exist doesn’t even have to respond to that attack. But, if Exist only takes one step to the side (not sidestepping mind you) and moves her neck she can get away from that attack quiet nicely.

Exist saw The Shining coming, she knew she must move her shoulder out of the way. She launched into a gallop, her right hind hitting the ground and now her forelimbs following. This happened in the half of a second but she could not get away fast enough. Since the mare above her had not gone into a full rear and had momentum there was little she could do except to direct the attack somewhere else. The attack hit her tensor fascial latae muscle. Her features contorted in the pain of using her bruised muscle and the impact upon her last. But she had deflected the brunt of the attack and she was happy for that much. Now she looked at The Shining, ready for her turn to come.

THAT is how a battle goes. Shaan could easily have deflected my moves. Read the whole thing. Its a learning experience.
