Subject: Guillemot lost
It appears that Guillemot will be considered a total loss by the Insurance company...
Hurricane Sandy claimed her - even though she put up a heck of a fight - in fact her hull never got holed below the water line and she remained afloat until the bitter end, thrashing and trashing all in her way, finally coming to rest in a pile of 30 other boats that were stored in the yard, with toe rail, sprit, gone... hull to deck joint wide open, decks and cabin top severely compromised...
The club experienced a 6ft storm surge topped off with another 6ft in rolling waves... she never stood a chance...
People watching the whole thing were in absolute awe of her seaworthyness, her determination to stay afloat, her endurance... and watched as she, being the last one to leave her stands, trashed boat after boat that had floated off before her, on the way to higher ground, the Yacht Club, which ended up being severely damaged by the onslaught of thrashing boats and waves...
when I saw her, with hull intact, I was hoping she could be saved... Inside, her cusions were dry, the interior looked as if nothing happened... but unfortunately the extreme damage done decks and hull - some holes (above the waterline), bow above waterline is split open from the ramming into other boats, her decks are holed, the cabin top is holed, none of the stanchions are left, windows smashed, the worm gear is bent (although the rudder, albeit severely beaten, is still securely attached to the bronze armature) the prop shaft is bent, the prop is dinged, Mizzen is splintered to pieces, but the main somehow only saw only minor damage... Bottom line is that Boat US is indicating she is not worth bringing back...
So sad, so sad... I am heart broken.

Condolences -- Jared Kibele, - Monday - 11/12/12 - 9:02pm
I'm really sorry to hear that. We're thinking of selling Architeuthis and even the thought makes me sad. I can't imagine how upset I'd be if she were destroyed rather than just sold.

Sending condolences on the loss of your vessel!! Very sad story! Wondering if you were able to salvage any of the sails or other items. I am the owner of a Mariner31 and would appreciate a call if you have anything you would like to sell. (203-530-5409). Thanks! John

Condolences -- Greg Gisler, - Thursday - 12/27/12 - 4:41pm
I too am sorry for the loss, mine sank two years ago, however, I was able to salvage it and she is nearly back to normal. I was also wondering about the possibility the salvage parts (lifeline bases for on).
Thanks,
Greg Gisler

Chopped up -- Paul M31 #106 NJ, - Sunday - 12/30/12 - 9:54am
Boat has been chopped up and taken to a landfill.
I have been able to take off a whole bunch of stuff, including all that was made of teak or mahogany, all sails, the table, etc., etc.
I have been parting stuff out to be able to buy stuff for my new (old) boat, which needs some work, new sails and some other stuff.
Anyone interested in a full complement of sails - including a storm jib, mizzen trysail and extra genoa (hank-on) to the furling one - let me know. All are in excellent to very good condition - I am trying to collect enough to buy sails for the CAL 34 I bought.

Mariner sails -- Tom Kucera, - Monday - 02/11/13 - 4:33pm
Just catching up on the forum and noticed your post. First, sorry to hear of Guillemot's fate. My M32 Ryokosha is nearing the end of her now 2-year makeover, and I am thinking sails (after dealing with rigging, electronics, plumbing, paint...). If you still have the sails you mentioned, I would be interested in knowing more details on them (e.g., age, dimensions, condition, etc.), and what you would ask for them. And good luck with your new boat.

Sails -- Paul M31 #106, - Saturday - 02/23/13 - 3:55pm
I have all the sails still - dimension will have to wait until such time that they can be taken from their bags, spread on the lawn and measured - They are pretty much standard M31 size, with theGenoa being appox a 120 or 130.
Based on similar listed sails at several sites, their value is somewhere between $2,000 and $2,500 if sold individually - I haven't figured what a complete matched set including a mizzen staysail would or should go for.
If interested, email me at dutchessc22 com
