Subject: Engine parts for Perkins 4-107/108

While doing winter maintenance on the old Perkins 4-107, I noticed fuel leaking from the throttle lever shaft on my injector pump. After trying to see if I could stop the leak, I decided to pull the pump and have it looked at by someone who knew what they were doing. I took it to Diamond Diesel in W. Sacramento, CA. They told me I needed to replace/rebuild the throttle shaft seal assembly and the rest of the pump also. They tested the pump after the throttle shaft rebuild and it wouldn't pump to specs. There went my boating budget for the Winter! The good news was they did a great job and I recommend them. Since I was pulling the pump, I decided to have the injectors rebuilt also. There went my boating budget for Spring! Since I was at it, I decided to pull the exhaust/exchanger and clean it out. Then I decided to install a remote oil filter and new pressure senser and low oil alarm. Then I decided I needed new fuel injector pipes. Now I've blown my Summer boating budget! I think I've gone insane but, then again, maybe just another happy Mariner owner...I bought new injector pipes from Trans Atlantic Diesel in VA. They are also a good contact for PerkinsEngines/Parts.
Trans Atlantic also has a great serpentine belt kit for my 100amp Balmar alternator............there I go again, trying to wipe out the rest of my budget. Bill

Well we all get carried away sometimes, but it's best to be proactive. Incidentally, for other CA folks, I'd highly recommend British Marine in Oakland. I inherited a faulty rebuild on my 4.107 that made itself known in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. After literally a global search for parts, only British Marine had everything I needed and could rapidly assemble it all for shipment to that tiny island. Even if you don't love the pommie engines, be glad the parts are relatively cheap!

Thanks for the tip on British Marine. I'll put them in my notes for future parts supplier. Also, congrats on your awesom voyage to the South Pacific. I've really enjoyed following your trek so far and look forward to seeing you complete your "Plan". It's guys like you and Randall who go out in the BIG WATER that keep the dreams alive in an old bay and delta mud sailor like me. Fair Winds.
