Mine is on the stbd side of the vberth and is hung with 1" seatbelt type material from the athwartships frames that hold the bunk support in place. It is mounted about 1 1/2 feet forward of the head bulkhead.

Size: 10" wide by 24" long x 14" tall. The "long" way is fore and aft.

Not recommending it. It's just how mine was done.

I was just contemplating the same thing a couple of days ago. My boat never had a holding tank either. I was thinking the v berth as the best location as there aren't many other options. The problem with locating it on the starboard side is that the water tank and the batteries are on that side and I'm thinking you'd have to much weight on that side. My boat had four large, very heavy lead bars on the port side behind the ice box presumably to counter the weight on the starboard side and that was without a holding tank. I'm thinking that I'll place the holding tank on the port side in the v berth. I'm also thinking of relocating the batteries to where the icebox access from the cockpit is now ( port side of the engine ). I'd make a new hatch for access and some way to vent.
I'm off to the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival tomorrow in my San Juan 24. Glad to hear you're back working on your boat again. I spent some time working on mine a couple of days ago. First time in about a year.

I've been having the same thoughts about weight and also reading comments from a couple of other boats that confirm what you're thinking. I had some pretty grandiose plans when I started about re-doing all the tanks to fix that but as the project has dragged on I'm reducing the scope of it where I can so I can get back on the water. My plan is to relocate the batteries into the bilge area in front of the engine. Not usually a recommended location but the bilge is so deep there I think there is plenty of room and I hope the water never gets that deep! Because of the hatch construction the batteries will be a little to port but most importantly not out to starboard like before.
I have thought about a port side location for the holding tank but I haven't come up with a solution that won't leave effluent in the hose after flushing which from all I've read is a big no-no. I'd be interested in hearing more about your thoughts on the subject.
Have fun in PT! I don't think I'll be going this year since I'm taking every day possible to work on SEAN O'Sea so we can launch in the spring (as Bullwinkle used to say "This time for sure" :-)
