Subject: Option 2, for me

We don't put our boats away here (SF), but I've had Murre in a covered berth two winters out of the last five so I could work on her while it rains.

Each time I simply laid the masts on horses in the yard with all the others and wrapped them in the plastic blue tarps one gets at Home Depot. If I recall correctly, I got the largest available, then cut it in half, and those two pieces wrapped both masts with plenty of overlap.

This keeps the rain and dew off and, probably more importantly, it helps keep the paint or varnish fresher longer.

Your Option 1 is probably better, but a hell of a lot more work I would think(?)
