Subject: Sinking in Lake Huron

Ok, So we go on a long sail moving the boat up to Mid-lake Huron, 28 mph winds 8 ft+ waves, heeling over, moving fast. On the M-40 the bilge thru hull fitting, is under water on a starboard tack when heeled over +20 degrees!!!! The water pressure with your speed over 5 knots is enough to over come the vacuum loop and force itself back into the bilge!!!! Noticing the bilge is cycling on/off, I switched it off - momentarily! 15 minutes later, I had 6 feet of water in bilge!! CHECK VALVES are very necessary on the bilge plumbing! If my bilge would have failed me I would have sank the boat!!!! INSTALL CHECK VALVES!!!! and a 2nd bilge doesnt hurt! Gordon
