Subject: Decks close to done

I am inthe process of bolting down the decks so i am turning my attention to the cabin, does anybody have any words of wisdom or pictures on the aft side of cabin removal this is the only area that really scares the crap out of me.

Could I possible get the email containing the deck and cabin replacement as well. I am in North Carolina workin on my Mariner for the next three weeks. What started out as a little mending has spidered out to an almost complete deck replacement, partial cabin replacemnent and Total fiberglass Job.The only positive thing I can say is that my wife is still back in Arkansas, far enough away that I can minimize the damage and avoid an "I told you so"......

I'm in Brigeton next to neuburn...newburn...something like that. I'm down here for three weeks , home for two and back for who knows how long. I'm just now past the point of tearing things up and starting to rebuild. I picked up some ash yesterday to replace some of my studs underneath the deck and will be puting them in today. I have half my cabin off and am also in the process of removing the back part of the cabin as well...one thing is for certain I'll know the boat well when I'm through. If you want you can call me on my cell phone (501-749-9214)and perhaps we can trade ideas or maybe just rant a bit. My estimated time of completion at this point is around 4 months...this includes re-wiring the boat, sanding and finishing the masts, installing a manuel windlass, replacing the rectangle ports with opening brass ( an ebay find), ETC....ETC...ETC....
This will end up being my family of five's home

When doing your house sides or the bulkhead for that matter, how did you remove the coaming that "joins" the two? Did you have to dig out the cockpit first? Any help here would be very very very much appreciated. Thanks!

If I am understanding your question correctly, I believe we are in the same process. I removed my deck first and then with a sawzaw cut up between the cabin walls and the studs.I did half of this from the inside of the cabin because the lower mahagony trim was to hard to remove behind cabinets. I am replacing the walls with a combination 3/8s plywood and 5/8s bamboo flooring that is almost the exact color and grain as the existing mahagony and incredibly durable.

Pete; On my project in '89, Yes I did remove the cockpit prior to replacing the bulkhead. Basicly every thing from the bulkhead aft,(except the cockpit well).See owners pg. The coamings had to come off to replace the bulkhead, or the aft edge of the cabin sides.Buzz Hall on "PELICAN" #57 Did a fantastic job of only replacing the main bulkhead support (from the inside!) Hope this helps.

It is very easy to remove the coamings it just takes time. you have to find each screw and remove them it took me an entire day to remove them but you can get the off in one piece they are bolted through the cabin side near the corner.
Look at all of your mahognay i am having to have several pieces remade because they have rotted.
