attaching a water heater to the perkins 4-107 -- marcus, - Friday - 12/ 8/06 - 9:05pm
Thanks again for the picture. Is there any chance for a close up of the in and out hose attachment points on your engine? I'd hate to hire someone to do the work, but when I look at my perkins I am lost. I also find the factory shop manual to be not much help.
TIA,
Marcus

That's my favorite cereal bowl... -- Randall, - Thursday - 11/ 9/06 - 9:38pm
...where else's it gonna go? :) Ya, the shelf you are seeing is accessible from the cabin. It's right behind the galley sink.
Putting the water heater over the engine would sure help clean up that starboard side, and get all those hoses out of the way, but I'd be concerned it leaves little room for crawling around the engine for maintenance.
There are some operations to the port side of the engine--not to mention the top--that require you to be super-longarm-stretchy-man. With the water heater over the engine, could you get to the port side coolant hoses that feed into the heat exchanger? Would you have room to lift an oil bottle over the engine oil fill? Could you remove a fuel injector?
The fresh water pump is mounted on the crank shaft, so it doesn't seem like raising the fresh water coolant the extra 12" elevation should be a problem as it certainly ain’t a problem for the tiny drinking water pump.
Curious to know how you solve it...

water heater location -- marcus, - Saturday - 11/11/06 - 6:13pm
Hello all I bought a seaward f600(I think) this means the engene coolant connections are on the same side as the electricals and the fres water in and outs. F= fromt, you can get them is a few configurations. My boat is a custom cutter and it fits under the sink which is now on port side in a spot that would usually be part of the port birth. I will take some pics, I used a variable speed shureflo pump and a scanvic chrommixed leaving one bronxe hand pump for seawater intake if needed. the pump pulld the water through a big filter then into the heater and out the single lever mixer faucet. no expansion tank needed, and it dosn't cycle on and off when not in use. happy sleeps, oh, but clamp down w double clamps the hot out from the heater and its connection to the fawcet cause they are slippery when hot. Dont ask how I found out! cheers
