She turns and sees no Goldy. She snorts. She looks aroud panic taking over. She nickers highly. She works her way to the outer edge of the group. She scans the flooding plains. The water was up to her knees. She hears a cry and looks in its direction. She sees Expresso and Goldy. The whites of her eyes showing as she takes of. The water spashes around her the drops stinging her eyes. She reaches a small hill closer to the two. She halts wtaching scared.

She stops and nickers for her mum this time for the water was up to her sides. She sees a horse not her mum but another horse splashing through the water towards her. She nickers for her. The water was now at her sides and she was forced to swim. He head bobs underwater as she whinnys in fright. She looks for the horse but it had disapeard. She feels her body lifting from the water and looks down to see her Grand-dam. She nickers and clings to her with her life.

*Cloudy is across the her back, snuggled deep in her long, silky mane.*

*Sunny sighs deeply, her breath blowing her still-silky, creamy forelock off her velvety nose. The old mare looks down from a small hillock where she stands alone.* I am old, *she thinks reasonably.* Perhaps this was meant to be my end . . . *But then she sees her grandfilly's frightened face and sets her jaw.* No, *she thinks.* I can't let a chance to see Cloudy grow up slip away. I'll stay alive. If it's the last thing I do, I'll stay alive.
