Subject: Virus / Bounced E-Mails

I removed the requirement for posters to the message board to include an e-mail address in their posts. I'm not sure exactly what has happened, but it looks like someone has been using e-mail addresses on the message board for some type of a virus attack. The odds are 1 in a million that it is anyone that we would know or that has ever had anything to do with this message board. Mostl likely it is someone that has used some type of program to just search the internet for e-mail addresses. I received a few emails from users of the message board telling me about this and I have actually received a few of the "bounced email" messages myself. Hopefully, by removing the email requirement and removing the messages that were on the board that had email addresses on them, this will eliminate the problem but I don't know for sure that will fix it. In the meantime, I would suggest message board users run some type of antivirus software on their computers, just to be on the safe side. Its a good idea to do that on a regular basis anyway.

The other option to fix the problem was to remove the message board completely. Given the quality of the posts over the last couple of weeks, that has been a serious consideration. I'm in the process of moving this weekend, but once that has been completed, I'm going to change the message board where it will require registration and a password for people to post. Until that point, please keep your posts racing related and your language family friendly. If they can say "the word" on TV, then you can say it here. If there's a question that the language might be inappropriate, just don't use it. If you want to sell something, particularly something not racing related, send me an e-mail and I will put it on the classifieds page but the message board needs to be kept racing related.

Over the years, a lot of web pages and with them, message boards have come and gone, including the message board at the Speedrome site. WardRacing.com's page and message board is the only one that I know of that has been consistant since early 1999. It would be a shame and I would consider it a personal failure if the actions of a few ruined the site for so many people that use it. Just remember if that happens, the odds are against any other similar type site and message board having the legs to stand for any amount of time.
