Subject: Osteoparosis

Well...it should not have come as a shock to me, but for some reason it did...the day after my 30th birthday I got the results of my latest bone density and it showed a marked decline. In 2 years I went from moderate osteopenia to full blown osteoparosis (in the high risk category for fractors nonetheless). I have not been on any treatment for bone loss because of my stomach condition...making matters worse, I'm sure. So now I am going to be waiting until my dental work heals (I JUST had my last 2 wisdom teeth pulled the same day I found out this news...NOT a good day as you can see LOL) and then I will probably start Boniva infusions. My rheumy seems to like them best because they are 4 times a year and if you need to stop them for some reason in the middle, you can...you don't have to wait a whole year to do something like with the other medication...and with me, that is a big plus LOL! My life is full of surprises, so being prepared for all of them is appreciated!

Steroids stripped my bones...10 years on prednisone...5 years on it full time...the last 2 years on high dose...sigh...at least I am down to 12.5 mg today, lowering to 10 mg as soon as my mouth heals. Keep your fingers crossed it heals soon!!

Love and hugs to you all!

~Ivy~
