Subject: Some fond memories

While I may have spent my high school years elsewhere, and although "the 60s" were truly tumultuous and difficult times, my five years ('63-'68) at SCDS with the class of '72 provided me with memories that I'll cherish always.

Most of the folks who have written a few words here have drawn upon the fond recollections of their young adulthood. For me though, my SCDS years occurred during that still, but nearing an end, magical time when childhood transitions to youth. The tranquility of the Scarborough/Beechwood setting, often (too often) chattered by the news of the horrors of the times about, helped nurture my youthful notions. Along with home & family, it also provided safe haven for the beginning of the quest that is both the understanding & the exploration of one's life's purpose.

I was recently able to take a brief stroll down memory lane and touch The Beechwood Tree (yup- still there, carvings and all, nestled among the nearby condominiums) that I had long ago climbed as a boy. I tossed a pebble into the pond where my schoolmates & I had placed ice hockey during the winter and gazed upon the field (now a residential yard for the adjacent condos.) where I had frolicked around the Maypole, played soccer & toiled with the Half-Mile ([way!] behind fellows that were becoming men) as a twelve year old youngster (what ever was I thinking!).

It was nice to happen across this web site and to see names still present in the recesses of my memory. They...you've helped rekindle a few of wonderful recollections. Thank you.

Russ Ellis
