I stumbled upon this site by accident - writing a speech on community service - LIFE IS FOR SERVICE & MANNERS MAKETH MAN. How many of you remember that? Reading through and seeing names I actually recognized, even though too young to have graduated - only 8th grade when the school closed.

Two names to add to those great teachers of youth:

Russell Simmons, world coach and
Janet Lobdell (sp?)mentor of life

Peace to you all in the New Year.

Padraic -

You might be interested to learn something I was recently told by a member of the class of '48. Those two plaques were given to the school by Narcissa Vanderlip's close friend and fellow suffragette, Eleanor Roosevelt, on the occasion of the opening and dedication of the Beechwood Theater!

According to the story, Narcissa invited Eleanor to speak at the event and dedicate the theater. Eleanor asked, "What should I donate" and Narcissa replied "Whatever you want" Eleanor presented the plaques.

How's that for provenance?
