Thanks Columbus - this poem was based on the mythology of India when the Ganges came into being - India is a country of such extreme contrasting images that it is sometimes good to think about t he wonderful mythological aspects of it rather than just the suffering and inequality - although I do that too.

Welcome to Unicorn by the way :)

>>Mantra
>>
>>The Lord of the Mountains appears
>>Resplendent in the forest’s rich jewels
>>Emerald greens entwine ruby berries
>>Intoxicating flowers fragrance the air.
>>
>>In the land called Abode of the Gods
>>Standing guard over Gangotri
>>The glory of shivling stands proud
>>As the Ganges part and he enters her
>>Meandering down valleys serpent-like.
>>
>>His lover, her coiled and matted hair,
>>Wet with the spray of the Ganges
>>Rises up before lowering herself.
>>
>>The perfumed mountain balmy breezes
>>Caress sweet-scented skin passion spent
>>Entwined and safely shadowed in the shade
>>Of the stately trees in the cool forest grove.
>>
>>Resounding with the sweet-voiced songs
>>Of troops of Aspara and in the forest depths
>>Flocks of kokila maddened with passion sing.
>>
>>The roar of the Ganges crashing into rocks
>>Causes a moment of surprise before they
>>Too excitedly break free through the canopy
>>Shrieking madly at the sight they witnessed.
