It is a really good idea for GCSE pupils - trying to structure their revision - to do so around a set of specific questions.
In the past, the Russia AQA exam papers tended to focus EITHER on questions analysing events (how, why and to what extent questions), OR on the extent to which life changed for ordinary people during those events.
Thus, for any set of dates, you would have three possible questions to focus upon:
a. How did things change 19??-19??
b. Why did things change 19??-19??
c. How did life for ordinary people change 19??-19??

Nowadays, the AQA GCSE course is organised around 8 questions:
1. How strong was the Tsarist regime in 1914?
2. Why did it collapse in March 1917?
3. Why did the Provisional Govt only last 8 months?
4. How were the Bolsheviks able to take control in Nov 1917?
5. How did Lenin impose Communist control?
6. How successful was Lenin in creating a Communist society?
7. How far did Stalin set up a personal dictatorship?
8. To what extent did Stalin make Russia a great economic power?
These are excellent questions AROUND WHICH GCSE PUPILS MIGHT ARRANGE THEIR REVISION. If you know the answers to these questions thoroughly, you are less likely to find yourself flummoxed in the exam.
You can find the full AQA Russia syllabus on page 20 of the AQA syllabus - available in pdf format at http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/pdf/AQA3042WSP.pdf
If you are interested, EVERY topic has a set of key questions, and you can check them out on pages 17-29 of the syllabus at that web address.
