Although records were kept of slaves' true names, it wasn't common for those true names to be incorporated in their 'new' lives. Things like surnames were usually completely lost to future generations, as was intended by the system in general. To preserve a last name as a middle name, sharing it amongst family members, could be construed as dangerous. Second generation slaves, those born in, were not supposed to know anything beyond what they were born to. It gave them no where to run to, nothing to run away from.
"Hmmm, you and me both." Dorjan was actually fairly patient with children and, in secret, adored them. He didn't, however, have patience for insolence in children. Beyond that (and some other things), he could almost be considered an uncle. ..
