It seems to me that the principal problem here goes beyond the clash of two cultures but is more the clash of two time frames. Western Christian culture is hardly able to look on condescendingly when it knows sub-continental culture is merely echoeing itself 500 years since. I use the world culture rather than religion because for me anything that proposes to perpertrate dischordence is not religion. I believe the Muslim cultur lies now at a stage similar to that of the Christian crusades with a degree of puritanical devotion thrown in. This would be little problem were the sub-continent as isolated as Europe 500 years ago, but unfortunately they have had Western means for communication and destruction pressed on them and the means to control this via colonilaism removed to rapidly. The west has left a spiteful adolescent with a mans capacity to wreak vengence.
This may be slightly drifting from the issue of British cultural harmony but it surely relates. The time frames of the two cultures are so different that there is an inevitable choice whereby either western liberalism or sub-continental fundamentalism must be embraced. Obviously i speak in generalities and could be accussed of racism but people have for two long not understood you can not deal with people by inclination fundamental in a liberal manner. This is why much of the indigenous population has experienced racial intimidation from etnic minorities. It can not be allowed for them to live in enclaves of their own culture because this perpetuates the problem by bringing the sick adolescent closer to the scene of his vengence whilst increasing a feeling of alienation. In contrast i have the upmost respect for those of other cultures who willingly engage in Western culture but it should be appreciated that for the West to expect as much is not illiberal but a sensible and fair trade-off for the benefits presumably perceived in the west(why else come?)that ensures the greater social health of bothh parties. In terms of religion that should of course remain a private matter. To say "kick out the pakis" undermines the case for a proper debate about possibly one of the most pressing issues of our age, particularly as nearing full employment heightens the liklehood f more immigrants for manuel labour purposes as occured in the 1960's rivers of blood period. Interestingly this wave of immigration has hugely influnecd our culture while the immigrants themselves made efforts to intergrate. To be intergrated is not to be subjugated, even if i myself regret some of this 'rude-boy' Windies cultural influence.
