While many people stayed indoors and children enjoyed their snow day playing in the snow, others were enjoying ice skating and playing on the frozen Connetquot river. That was also the case for a group of local young adults. Their plan was to venture across the river to a nearby nature reserved island. Things were all well until tragedy struck. Two dogs, Tylor and Jaminson, had ran far from the group to play together. It was then that Joseph Laundrie of Sayville and Cole Hochenberger of East Islip had realized that the dogs were in a danger zone of thin ice. While trying to persuade the dogs to follow them and take a safer route the canines fell through the ice. While trying to save the lab, Jaminson, Laundrie found himself almost on the verge of falling through before his best friend Cole grabbed his leg pulling him to safer ice. Jaminson was quickly rescued because of his close distance. Though Tylor was struggling for his life for a long 5 minutes until Laundrie realized the dog was going under due to exhaustion in the ice cold water. Laundrie risked his own body by jumping into the water and dragging the dog to safety, where after he ran on pure adrenaline and collapsed after entering a nearby restaurant. There a man found him, dragged him into the bathroom, and stripped him of his clothes while the ambulance were on their way. Laundrie was rushed to Southside Hospital where he was treated and tested. The doctors concluded soon enough that he was well enough to return home. Temporarily Laundrie will be out of school and work with the demand from his doctor that he rest. Joseph Laundrie truly is a hero to the canine who is well and acting normal and healthy........Crazy day guys. After putting my hand in the water to grab Joe i cannot even imagine what Joey must have felt like after being fully in the water. Crazy kid, he proved himself to be the ultimate Polar bear haha....
