Hi! I am a live-out Nanny(degree in ECE, 8 yrs exp, taught preschool, current CPR/First Aid cert., Trustline reg) for a family with 2 kids(not yet in school) in San Francisco. I work 50 hrs per wk. When I was hired almost 2 yrs ago, it stated in the contract that I would be paid $15 an hr under the table with a $1 raise per hr after the first year. After 7 mnths I req'd that taxes be taken out of my pay because my hubby and I wanted to buy our 1st home. They agreed. When my 1 yr review came time, they said I am doing a wonderful job, but they could not give me a raise because of the added expense incurred when they had to contribute to taxes. I understood. Now, approaching my 2nd yr review, I believe I am entitled to a raise, but don't know how much I should ask for. I am provided with a car for childcare duties, and cell phone including basic service. I receive 2 wks paid vacation per yr, a few paid holidays, and paid sick days(but only if I'm on my death bed). I love the children and get along well with the parents, but I am also now commuting 2 hrs a day from my new home(my decision of course). What is a fair pay increase after 2 yrs of service and if I am denied, do I look closer to home for a new family?
Thanks in advance.
