However, that would quickly add up to an astronomical amount for a family to pay and most won't do it. They will just try to make other arrangements and then you miss out on any overtime pay! So, I have always recommended this: Pay of regular hourly rate for all the day time/evening hours (usually comes to 14 hours per day) and half that rate for sleeping time (usually comes to 10 hours per day). So if your normal rate is $10 per hour, then it is $5 per hour for the nighttime hours when the kiddos are sleeping. The exception to this: IF a child get sick, is teething, etc.. and is up more than 30 minutes at night, then OT rate at time and a half kicks in for the whole time you are up. Most parents are much happier with this than paying OT for 16 hours a day! Tonya >I am a live-out nanny.
