I have been a nanny for many years. I would first suggest that you know what you are looking for. A nanny is not a maid, housekeeper, cook, limo driver, or your children's punching bag. When you are interviewing a nanny watch her reponse to your child(ren). Is she interactive, does she smile and seem to be happy when they are present. Look more for the goodness than the lengthy pages of references and education. Make sure you feel that she will enjoy working with your family. It is also a given that a child can pick out a good nanny better than some of the best nanny agency. So trust your child's judgment also. Most nannies want respect, to be trusted as a professional, and a decent salary. (check what other parents are paying in your area). A nannies duties our often outlined at the very beginning of the job. Just let her know what you expect and she will let you know what she expects. You sound like wonderful people to work for.
