I would strongly recommend using an agency if this will be your first time working as a full-time, live-in nanny. They can help you with things to make sure you get a fair wage, fair working conditions, etc. Many people who are new to this get taken advantage of by families who are often well meaning, but just don't think things through well. I would recommend going to the INA website www.nanny.org and checking out the agencies that are members that are listed in the area where you want to work. The NAN webiste also has member agencies listed on their website. In California, I can recommend from experience: Aunt Ann's, Town and Country Resources, and The California Nanny Company. You should be able to find all of these on the web. Other than that, I cannot recommend based on experience, only what I have heard. I know that many nannies us The Katie Facey Agency for the NY area, as well as Nanny Authority. I don't know anything about Atlanta or DC Agencies, although I have met the owners of White House Nannies (DC) and Nannies and More (Atlanta) and they both seemed like nice people. The pay rate will vary, depending on the area, but as you are a newer nanny, I would expect to be on the lower end of the range that the agencies you speak with tell you is the going rate in their area. Good luck!

I was placed in my home by a NY area agency, Nannies Plus. They have changed ownership since I worked with them but I am sure they are still a good agency for the NY/NJ area.
