I am a nanny for a 13 month old who was recently adopted. The mother works in the home, as do I. We have recently experienced a problem with the 13 month old crying inconsolably (to the point where she makes herself sick and starts screaming) whenever her mother leaves the room. If we leave her room at all while her mother is in the office, she cries as soon as she sees the office, and I cannot get her to stop crying. I realize it is normal for infants to cry when their parents leave the room, but for how long? The problem seems to lie in the fact that the infant has figured out that her mother is in the office and gets angry when kept away, but I dont know how to distract her. To further elaborate on the situation, the child has Reaction Attachment Disorder, so if anyone has had any experience with this kind of thing, any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated!
