Here's what I learned. An incisor that they exposed surgically and pulled down, second from the front, has lot 50% of its root. My dentist has been watching that tooth for years but never expressed to me that 1/2 the root was gone. THe ortho wanted to make sure I understand that there is a possibility of losing that tooth, with or without braces. He said he has seen this often. They pulled my bicuspids. He said the root from the next tooth had more than likely interefered with the root of this tooth and that the pressure from my overbite has made it worse. He said if I ever lose the tooth my gums are fine so an implant would work. I'm really worried but it seems the thing to do is to go ahead with the braces and monitor.
