>My teeth for various reasons did not touch for almost 9 months, so I wore out my old blender and had to buy a new one. I got a Hamilton Beach on sale at Penney's that I just love. Things to look for: get a glass container that won't stain or crack like plastic and can be washed in hot water. Make sure the handle is comfortable (it can get heavy) and has a pour spout. If you get a rubber top (mine is white rubber) put plastic wrap over the blender jar before putting the lid on when you are blending things with grease or tomatoes (chili, I am thinking) because the rubber top will stain and not come clean!

I blended canned and cooked veggies like broccoli and green beans and carrots to add to soups (the best base is cream of potato or celery made with skim milk for the calcium) and I also blended fresh fruits, even cantaloupe, and canned fruits like apricots. You just have to be sure there is some water or juice for it to work well. Our favorite was strawberries to make a sauce for ice cream!
