Hello All ...

It seems like this has become the forum of Keith, Sarah and Rick since no one else seems to contribute any longer. I'm not bitter.

I wanted to put some feelers out there for the ski trip. I have an extended offer from Kash to come and ski for relatively cheap in France this year. I like the idea.

Y'all must think, France, gee whiz Keith that's expensive. And it is and it isn't. Before I get into the details of how to save money, which I have (airfare to Paris or Madrid, b/c we're skiing in the Pyrennes, for around $150), let's talk about if we're all willing to do it.

I think that it's totally a once in a lifetime experience so we need to do it over new year's. That has always been cost prohibitive in Colorado because of the fluctuating rent rates on places.

Oh, I should have mentioned we have a place to stay in for free in France. It very well might entail sleeping on the floor, but what the fuck, we'll be with those flip flopping lovers!

So I wanna go pretty close after Christmas and over New Year's. Whatdaya think? Maybe a week from the 27th to the 3rd? If we can move towards a date fairly soon I think it will be helpful. But first we gotta decide if this is a go for us.

A rough estimate is something like this ...

Airfare $150
Rent $ 0
Skis $ ???
Lift Tix $ 30 a day (Kash assures me it's much cheaper to ski there than in CO)
Food well it's the same. I'm thinking with no rent, and low airfare we can do this. But this is definitely a low key affair. No extras this year. Just the close people. I say just Sarah, Chi, Rick, Jill and Keith. And don't worry Rick, Kash will be over there with another good friend of ours Dharam, who as Sarah will testify is cool and hot. And easy. And Kash and she are like family so they don't play with each others privates, so she'll still be single. But lemme know.

Keith

Ahh you sneaky bastard, throwing women at me to sweeten the deal! That's a low down dirty trick, even from a man of lax morals like you Keith.

So all I want to know is the following:
How much does it cost for a passport?
When will the airfare need to be purchased by? Are we going to wait until the last minute for a cheap deal or just buy the tickets ASAP?
Should I wear boxers or briefs? Or nothing?

Seriously though, as usual I am very poor, but given the time frame I can easily save up the cash. So, I will give a tentative yes. It does sound pretty goddamned awesome.

Oui oui, bonjour and so on and so forth...

Richard

P.S.
That article you emailed was reeeaaaally long, but interesting. Just another fine example of the incredible malevolency of this current administration. Those assholes should all be thrown in a giant rubber sack and put down like rabid animals.

Sorry about how long that article was, but NPR was giving it so much press I thought y'all should read it.

As for the passport I don't know, but I stress, DO IT NOW. The next day, and I mean tomorrow, when you have free time go and get a picture of yourself for a passport (go to Walgreens, they do it) and fill out the paperwork and mail it in. It's pretty cheap. It lasts ten years, so it's a decent investment.

The airfare is from skyauction.com. Check it out. You bid on excesses from travel agents. All they do is charge you taxes and whatever you bid on the fare. The taxes are like $129 a person, and then the bidding finishes at around $10. That's my idea to save money on airfare.

I like the idea, have to see how it all works out. This whole "planning vacation days months in advance" thing sucks. As to getting the passport, it takes about 6 weeks, unless you pay an extra $60 or something to get it expidited. For all of you who don't have one yet, go to http://travel.state.gov/passport. If you plan ahead, it costs $85 but is good for 10 years. You need two passport photos, your original birth certificate and original social security card. The site has a link to the post offices that process apps. I'm sure Columbia's big one would do it (Blue Springs' does).

As to skyauction.com, I have used them a couple times. Rachel and I got our trip to the Dominican Republic on their site this summer and we got 8 nights, for 2 people in an all-inclusive resort for $700. The deals are awesome and actually work as well as they seem when you read the listings.

Any other ideas from people?

Hmmm... I don't think we can go. It sounds like lots of fun, of course, but without jobs, without international travel.
