Aaah, the firewood...

…the firewood that I did not bring. But I did not forget to bring the tilapias and kantong bananas that I promised to bring. Ted & Lorraine brought pancit malabon and pasta; Bong and Lea arrived with chicken adobo and turon, while Dante and Elsie prepared beef, more turon and much more.

But wait…why didn’t I bring the firewood? Because it was not needed ta saan kami a natuloy idiay Wrightwood!

It has been continuously raining here in southern California for more than a week now. Diay aldaw nga umuli kami coma idiay Wrightwood, idi Friday, nagtudo nga uray la nga, which made some of the mountain roads very hazardous to travel on due to landslides and snow. Just to describe the weather’s severity, only those vehicles that are 4x4 and having snow tires were allowed to go up Highways 2 and 138 leading to Wrightwood. Dakami with lowly vehicles were also allowed but we were required to have snow chains on our driver tires. Sa nasipngeten no immuli kami coma, and we are not used to driving at night on treacherous mountain passes with rain and snow. Also that morning, Lorraine called Gary, the camp manager, who suggested we forgo our plan because of the weather. Had we insisted to go, Gary would have had us sign a waiver absolving the camp responsibility should we get harmed as brought about by the weather. The campsite ngamin ket is on a mountain slope, which is prone to landslide. So instead of risking injury, we decided to get together laengen, all 16 of us. And once again the Aldanas shared their hospitality to us, opened their hearts, and we had potluck in their cavernous house in Murrieta on Saturday, the 8th. Isu nga saan min a kinasapulan ti firewood.

Many of us, if not all, were disappointed ta saan kami a naka-snowski ken snowboard. Addan to latta. Nagbuya kami laengen ti Christmas concert da Elsie with Tayug and Natividad UCCP choir held in 1993 at Lizzly theater in Tayug, conducted by Mng. Marma and directed by Anne. We were so into the concert’s spirit that we watched it twice. Nostalgic.

And that how it went. Thanks for reading.
