THE UNITED STATES AND IRAQ
Biblical reasons on why the United States of America has taken action against Iraq. Let us address the issue from a Scriptural viewpoint.
Whether the United States likes it or not, this nation has been given by God the responsibility of world leadership. We may not want that, may not like that, and may not even acknowledge that; however, it is true.
In fact, when the Jewish people lost their way some five hundred years before Christ, the authority of leadership passed from their faltering hands, to the Gentiles. The first was Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonian Empire. This authority has come down from that day through many nations and empires. It rests presently in the hands of the United States. Other than the Antichrist, America will be the last nation to wield this particular power.
This is what Jesus was speaking of when He said: "And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations (He was speaking of the Jews and their defeat in A.D. 70): And Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled" (Lk. 21:24).
Great Britain wielded this power in the Nineteenth Century; but the responsibility now lies in the hands of the leaders of the United States.
This means that it is our responsibility, whether we like it or not, to put down Dictators who would attempt to take away peace from the world. If our intelligence tells us, and I speak of information gleaned by various means, that Saddam Hussein is fomenting means of terrible destruction, whether biological or nuclear, then it's our responsibility to stop him and to use whatever means is necessary to finish the task. In fact, it should have been finished in the Gulf War. Our leaders were woefully remiss by not taking that opportunity.
The Scripture says: "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil" (Eccl. 8:11).
GOVERNMENT
Government is of God, and in fact, was originally established by God. Without government, chaos and anarchy are the results. Government is obligated to put down crime and criminal activity and is allowed by the Lord the means to do so, which means to use force if necessary (Rom. 13:1-7).
As well, when Dictators arise in bandit nations, if they set about to take peace from the world, responsible nations are obligated under God to put down such rogue nations, and more particularly their leaders.
Saddam Hussein is spending hundreds of billions of dollars on weapons of every description. It is a known fact, that every Dictator who amasses such weaponry, sooner or later, uses that weaponry. In other words, if this madman is allowed to continue, there will be a time coming in the not too distant future that we will wish we had stepped in and done something.
War is awful! People die in war! But the question has to be asked, certainly taking note of the casualties on our part, will the casualties be far more if this man is allowed to continue?
ALLIES!
Regrettably, most of the nations of this world could not care less about Saddam Hussein. They don't really care what he does, as long as he doesn't bother them personally. This means, that they have no Scriptural or Spiritual knowledge whatsoever.
We know that if given the chance, Saddam Hussein would blot Israel off the face of the Earth. Unfortunately, most nations don't care about that. In fact, if many nations of the world had their way, they would be glad that Israel was totally destroyed. But God has given the United States the responsibility of caring for Israel, at least, at this present time. Again, we may not like that task, nor do we enjoy that task; however, we have that task, and we have it under God, which means that we had better take this responsibility very seriously.
The Promise given to Abraham by the Lord so long, long ago, holds true unto this hour, and in fact, will ever hold true. He said, "I will bless them who bless you, and curse him who curses you: and in you (Abraham and Israel) shall all families of the earth be blessed" (which they have been in Jesus Christ) (Gen. 12:3).
So America's fortunes ride more so on our treatment of Israel than on the disposition of Wall Street, or Congress, or our higher Institutions of Learning. Beleaguered as Israel is, and as far removed from the Lord as they presently are, they still belong to God. And to be sure, He is going to bring them back.
In fact, the Antichrist will meet his match when he seeks to destroy Israel, as he certainly will attempt to do. That will be his Waterloo; that will be his final Chapter. Revelation, Chapter 19 tells us what will happen, and I speak of the Second Coming of the Lord.
Even as I dictate these notes, I sense the Presence of the Lord, and I believe that you do as well.
Yes, if our intelligence bureau tells us that North Korea, Iran, China and some other rogue nations are amassing powerful weaponry, whether biological or nuclear, or both, the United States of America better step in now and do something about it.
***NOTE: The author of this commentary is a well known evangelist and spiritual advisers to many US Presidents.
President GWB sought his advice and prayed with him
as the war on Iraq draws near. The first President Bush
conferred with him and prayed with him too before he issued an order to attack Iraq.
