did anyone else tune in for dad's debut this afternoon with demarco farr on kspn in los angeles?

being accustomed to kiley playing the host/straight man, i was caught off guard by his new role as instigative rabble-rouser. farr is average as far as radio personalities go, but for a professional athlete, he seems to be more of a natural at it than most (kiley is still at the top of the list).

my main concern with farr is that he doesn't appear to be on kevin's wavelength. there were several instances where farr missed kevin's point or had no clue about the direction he was going with a certain conversation or topic. it's possible they'll develop better "chemistry" with time, though if today was any indication, it won't happen. kiley offered great insights, logical arguments and witty one-liners, but they seemed lost on farr, his producer/board op (who shouldn't have nearly as much of a role as he does) and mia, the update girl - with whom, ironically, some of the best exchanges occurred.

one of demarco's female friends called to ask if kiley was getting paid and if so, who hired him. at least he still possesses the ability to piss people off. the downside to that is he has to do it consciously because farr isn't going to say anything controversial - whereas with chucky, he'd intetionally try to set booms off (it helped that they disagreed politically and philosophically), then let booms duke it out with the audience after booms said something even more outrageous.

kiley clearly needs this outlet. it's also clear this is as close as he'll be able to get to anything even remotely resembling the old show (and it's lightyears away at best). i think he probably wishes it COULD be the old show, and he'll likely try to over-compensate for farr's shortcomings as a result, which will be an overall detriment to the broadcast.

we need a booms update from deacon.
