Motorola Awarded $90 Mln Contract To Provide Public Safety Mobile Data Network - Update [MOT]

6/24/03 10:14:03 PM Communications major Motorola, Inc. (MOT) announced late Tuesday that it has signed a $90 million contract with Victorian Government to provide an integrated public safety Mobile Data Network.

Under the contract, Motorola revealed that the state's public safety agencies will be able to share information and communicate more effectively. The integrated solution is part of Motorola's extensive portfolio of integrated communications and information solutions designed to address mission-critical public safety and security requirements worldwide.

Additionally, the company said that the high-tech interactive data communications system would boost response capabilities and slash paperwork for police and paramedics. The company noted that police and paramedics would access the network via in-car touch-screen computers linked to centralised Victoria Police and Metropolitan Ambulance Service databases and despatch hubs.

"The Mobile Data Network will significantly reduce response times and allow police and paramedics to arrive at emergencies and crime scenes better briefed than ever before," said, Andre Haermeyer, Victoria's Police and Emergency Services Minister.

Shares of MOT closed Tuesday gaining 2 cents at $9.39.
