MCI's ex-CEO Ebbers gets date with Oklahoma court

OKLAHOMA CITY, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Bernie Ebbers, the former chief executive of bankrupt telephone company MCI, is due to appear in an Oklahoma court next Wednesday to face charges of violating state securities laws by knowingly giving false information to investors.
Ebbers' appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CDT (1930 GMT) before Judge Russell Hall of the Oklahoma County District Court, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Attorney General said on Thursday. Ebbers' attorney did not return calls seeking comment.

Oklahoma Attorney General W.A. Drew Edmondson on Wednesday charged MCI, Ebbers and five others with violating state securities laws.

The 15-count complaint marked the first criminal charges filed against Ebbers and the telephone company, which filed the largest bankruptcy in history last year amid an accounting scandal that has ballooned to $11 billion.
