New York City: Ground Zero
7 a.m. ET
Guests begin to gather at the World Trade Center site.

8:30 a.m. ET
Program begins with the introduction of a citywide moment of silence.

8:46 a.m. ET
Moment of silence is held in observance of the exact time the first hijacked plane struck the North Tower. Houses of worship toll their bells throughout the city. Children in pairs begin reading the names of the victims as families start descending the ramp to lay flowers on the lowest level of the World Trade Center site.

9:03 a.m. ET
Moment of silence is held in observance of the exact time the second hijacked plane struck the South Tower.

9:59 a.m. ET
Moment of silence is held in observance of the exact time the South Tower fell.

10:29 a.m. ET
Moment of silence is held in observance of the exact time the North Tower fell. The reading of names concludes shortly afterward.

12 p.m. ET
"Taps" is performed by two trumpeters, followed by the final music performance, which concludes the program.


Sundown ET
"Tribute in Light" is lighted in memory of those lost and as a symbol of the city's spirit.

Washington, D.C.
8:46 a.m. ET: White House
President and Mrs Bush observe a moment of silence on the White House South Lawn.



9 a.m. ET: Pentagon
The ceremony features addresses by President Bush, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Richard Myers. The large U.S. flag flown on the side of the Pentagon after the Sept. 11 attack is unfurled in the same location during the ceremony, and a moment of silence will be observed at 9:37 a.m., the time at which American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon.


12:35 p.m. ET
President and Mrs. Bush take part in a wreath-laying ceremony.
