I've been browsing the internet for quite some time and just now found this message board. I think your were my CO while I was in Vietnam. My records have been lost so I wasn't sure what unit I was assigned to.

I was assigned as a security guard, my MOS was Military Police. Was stationed with other MP's and we were assigned tower guard from 6pm til 6am each night. During the day we would rotate gate guard at the main entrance.

I can remember H&R fire and being hit with B-40 rockets. That same night a new guy on tower guard located on top of a big rock below the mountain took a direct hit. Do you recall if he lived. Also, I was just behind the new guy that lost both feet and leg when we both were running towards the tank. He had just fallen backwards when I had gotten closer to the tank. He went into shock before he was medevaced out. He had lost a tremendous amount of blood. Can you recall if he made it ok?

One night I wason security guard at the main gate. Myself and the other guard on duty with me searched a truck tring to leave the compound and found an unauthorized soldier trying to get out the gate without permission. When we got him out and after I had turned my back he struck on the left side of my head. I remember you had me and the soldier that hit me in your office and apparently I passed out and came to at the Qui Nhon Hospital. I was there for about a week and a half the air ambulatoried To Cam Rhan Bay for about two weeks. While there I had to stand guard with a m-14 and 6 rounds of ammo each night. I was sent to Cam Rhan Bay just after the sapper attack took place. I wasn't looking forward to being sent there. As a matter of fact I went to the CO mid way of my 2nd week and asked him to sent me back to my unit. I believe some time afterwards I was re assigned to the Depot.

If by chance you remember me and can remember having me medevaced to the Qui Nhon Hospital please let me know. My medical records were lost and the only proof I have is a medical document that states perferated eardrum. I was in both hospitals combined for approximatley one month. Also, I need a buddy statement when we came under rocket attack and a new guy took a direct hit on his tower. That night I was located in tower #1 and he was in #4. Another statement concering the new guy losing both of his legs. I have been clasified with PTSD in 1982 and this would help with my service disability claim.

It has been 35 years since I have had any contact with anyone that I served with and without any rcords I wasn't real sure of my unit. It would be great to hear from you and if you have any pictures let me know and I would me more than glad to pay you for them.

Sincerely,

Wayne G. Caudill
