Subject: Stirling reassigned to ECHL and other Sound Tigers news..

Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) - Recalled defenseman Jody Robinson from Elmira of the United Hockey League; assigned goaltender Scott Stirling to Atlantic City of the East Coast Hockey League.

http://www.connpost.com/Stories/0,1413,96%257E3761%257E1161745,00.html

Giroux joined former Sound Tigers Dave Roche and Ken Sutton in Albany this season, signing with the New Jersey Devils over the summer. All three have seemed very happy with the decision.

"It's been great so far," Giroux said. "It's a first-class organization. We've got good coaches, good guys in the room. ... It's a good group."

One reason Giroux wanted to sign with the Devils, he said earlier this year, was that the organization had a history of giving chances to smaller but skilled defensemen. Similar to his situation last year in the New York Islanders organization, though, NHL opportunities haven't come up.

Giroux has been recalled only once, for one day, as insurance; he did not get to play. Still, he's not overly disappointed.

"You really can't control things," Giroux said. "They're playing unbelievably well, New Jersey is. If something happens, great. I'll be ready for it."

GOOD CAUSE

The Jennifer Ferraro Fund raised over $5,000 Monday night at the All-Star Game, between a 50-50 raffle and a photo opportunity with the Stanley Cup. Ferraro, the wife of Portland's Chris Ferraro, died Nov. 5 of stomach cancer, and the player established the fund to benefit cancer treatment facilities that cared for Jennifer.

POSTER NIGHT

The first 5,000 fans at Saturday night's Bridgeport Sound Tigers game against the Saint John Flames will receive a poster featuring "Young Guns" Trent Hunter and Justin Mapletoft. The two will be available after the game for autographs.

In addition, the game is "Stratford Appreciation Night." Stratford residents can purchase discounted tickets at the box office. For more information, contact the team at 334-4625.

CATCHING UP WITH...

New York Rangers pro scout Gordie Clark

(Note

Clark was the Sound Tigers director of hockey operations last season until he left the New York Islanders in the summer. A former Maine Mariner and a coach for that team when it was in the AHL, he was honorary captain of the PlanetUSA team at Monday's All-Star Game. The Glasgow, Scotland, native grew up in Saint John, New Brunswick.)

QUESTION

How does it feel coming back to Portland?

ANSWER

I started my career in Rochester for four years, and when you're young, the only goal on you is to make the NHL. By the time I came here, I knew the American Hockey League was going to be my career here. I'd gone through a tragedy the summer before I came here, losing seven people in a fire. I lost my mum, my dad, my sister and their family. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to play anymore. By the time I went to training camp with Cincinnati of the WHA in '78-79, I knew I needed hockey more than ever to get me through. I was sort of in and out of the lineup, and then (Philadelphia Flyers) Bob McCammon made a deal with them. (The deal that brought him to Maine meant) being able to play regularly, being closer to my family. ... I had 47 goals here, then 50. I sort of had my best year, then my last year. ... There's always going to be a part of me here. I live here in the summers. We had four or five veterans that lived here year-round, which was what I was trying to do in Bridgeport.

Q

How are you enjoying working with the Rangers?

A

My job right now, for Glen (Sather, Rangers coach and general manager) and Don (Maloney, assistant GM), is to do an in-depth evaluation of the organization. I'm a new set of eyes. I've been very successful hiring a staff and saving the Islanders franchise; now I have to go in and evaluate the franchise, the draft picks, where they are right now and where they're going to be in the future. Bring ideas, like I did with the Islanders, to bring other players in. It's a lot of work, a lot of traveling, but it's what I like to do, to find players.

Q

What do you think of Bridgeport's team this year?

A

I've never really seen them when everybody's been there. I thought Dave (Baseggio, assistant coach) and Steve (Stirling, head coach) did a tremendous job the first 15 games or so, when they really didn't have everyone. (Scouts) Kevin (Maxwell) and Kenny (Morrow) made a nice move getting (Sven) Butenschon to shore up the defense. Ricky (DiPietro) is playing in the NHL right now, which we all knew he would be. ... They've got to get a few more goals. They're pretty solid on defense. (David) St. Germain came in and played well, and Scott Stirling got a few wins.

Is he on crack or what? His picks were questionable at best and we all know that Andurs Kallur(sp) and Ken Morrow have really found the good unknown players.
