Subject: Renaissance of Kings

Did everybody enjoy the FCC Ren Faire? I sure did. So I'm going to another one and want to bring some people with me! (I was thinking we could carpool) The biggest Ren Faire in the Central Valley:

The Renaissance of Kings

"On October 2-3, 2004, England's King Henry VIII will preside over the 27th anniversary of the annual Renaissance of Kings Cultural Arts Faire in Hanford, CA.

On that golden weekend the historic 19th century Civic Auditorium Park at 400 N. Douty Street becomes the little English village of Hanfordshire. The hours the faire is open to the public are Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Attendance won't cost you a bag of gold and silver coins. Admission and continuous Renaissance entertainment for all the family are FREE! The parking in nearby public lots is also FREE.

Here is the theatrical setting to California Renaissance theater.

It is the year of our Lord fifteen hundred and twenty-seven. Our Beloved King, Henry VIII, has ruled over us for eighteen glorious years and during this time God has prospered all his enterprises. A brilliant warrior, His Majesty has triumphed in battle, greatly expanding England's holdings in France and in Ireland. As poet and songwriter, scholar and author our King is admired throughout the world for creating a glittering court that attracts the most talented participants from the continent.

There is but one thing that has eluded Henry's grasp. His older wife, Queen Catherine of Aragon has failed to produce a legitimate male heir! Though the King has been able to sire sons through other sources, it seems odd that the one thing that matters most to the security of his realm should be denied him. Could it be that there is something wrong with the King's marriage? Queen Catherine was first married to the King's elder brother Arthur and the Bible can be interpreted to forbid such a union. The King and his councilors are filled with doubt.

Into this charged atmosphere walks a fascinating and seductive young lady named Anne Boleyn. Educated at the French Court, she is the model of continental sophistication and takes England by storm when she becomes a lady in waiting to Queen Catherine.

King Henry is smitten with Lady Anne, but she will not yield to him unless he divorces old Queen Catherine and makes her Queen of England. Come and see how this age old "love triangle" unfolds."
