You sound like a sensible stafford owner - well done! I know some people believe glueing the ears as a young pup helps them to stay in the correct shape. I do not believe in this personally. The shape of a dog's ears - and how they "sit" on the head - is determined by ear placement on the head, size of ears, the thickness of the cartilege inside etc. How can glueing them in a certain position help with "fixing" those? I know some people say in a young pup, they may have had drop ears at age 6 weeks, then they glued them and then the ears became "rose" - however I believe the ears would have been rose after a couple of weeks, naturally, if left by themselves as well. Why else would some people glue, get rose ears for 3 or 4 days and then, the ears drop again? Because nature intended those ears to look exactly the way they do.
Unless someone is prepared to take their dog to a vet, and have a cosmetic operation during which the vet cuts open the ear and inserts a fixed stitch inside the cartilege to keep the ear in the same position, there is nothing glue will do. I do not believe cosmetic operations for showing, is morally justified in any way.
Show your baby in it's natural state, remember ears are just one part of the whole dog and yes, though they are important because they affect the expression on the dog's face, they are not the be all and end all of a Stafford. I believe a balanced dog with good headpiece, good front, balanced bone, level topline, good bend of stifle and spring of rib, which moves well and above all, which has a correct set of teeth, is more important than ears any day!
