Did you buy your puppy from a reputable breeder? A pup from a reputable breeder usually comes to the new owner fairly potty trained already and would RARELY soil their bed. However, a pup under 6 months should not be expected to hold it's bladder for more than 3 hours at a time, so you do have a problem. Any chance of arranging with a neighbour to come in halfway through the morning to give your pup a quick run outside? My thoughts are that the 4.5 hour interval is just a little TOO long and that he's now learning to mess in his bed because of that!
