He shouldn't be outside on his own at night Desmond. You cannot reprimand a dog for something in any case if it doesn't happen in your presence. Get him sleeping inside with you in your room, in a nice dog bed and give him plenty of suitable chew toys (see my article on Preventing Behaviour Problems on the main sa staffords website), plenty of exercise and a suitable, healthy diet and you'll soon find those problems a thing of the past.
