When Willow had a litter of one dead puppy a little while ago, she seemed to go into a very bad slump, but I don't know how much her hormones had to do with that - her body expecting to have a litter to nurse and suddenly having nothing. She was interested in absolutely NOTHING, not food, not walks, not humans, nothing. Time and a robust canine companion seemed to bring her out of it.

The only instance where I've had dogs mourn other dogs for an extended period of time, was where two oldies who'd been together for a long time, lost their friend, and the one left behind, never really seemed to get over it until they, too, went to rainbow bridge. I don't think they ever forget, to a degree!
