I don't know if there are Christians who uses the Bible like a book of spells -- you know, like in the witch and wizard movies. Personally, I don't open up and Bible, chant the words and make miracles happen. I respect God sovereignty in ruling over the universe and think it is unlikely that we may command God's power as if He is the genie in the bottle.
I guess I don't look upon the Bible as a law book, either. It's not a blueprint, or a check list of things I should be doing with my personal strength and/or will power. If it is, then there is no need for God to save us; all He needs to do would be to leave the book with us and we will go on living according to it. It will be no different in nature from any other book on ethics.
I believe that the Bible points to Christ. Specifically it tells us why Christ is central to our whole journey, from creation, fall, redemption and fulfillment. It also provide us a holy space where we may open our eyes and realize that we are living with God.
In order to free us from the bondage of sin (the layer that imprisons our God given nature), God did something radical and miraculous for us -- Christ died for us and came back to life for us. This one act, like a sharp stake that pierce through our crust of sin, gives us what we need to start living with Christ. This happens the first second after we open our eyes and admit that we are swept away by God's love.
Then, like a seed that finally received nurturing and died as a seed, life as a living, growing plant starts....
