I've got a woeful temper myself, and a horrible tendancy to bear a grudge, so I constantly have to keep myself in check.
Whenever I'm really mad, as in that massive sweet-Goddess-I-just-want-to-grab-that-person-and-throttle-them-till-they-pass-out kind of rage, I blow up a balloon. I always imagine it filling up with all my anger. Then I tie the ballon closed, sealing all my rage in, and ask the Lord and Lady to release it safely. I put the balloon away somewhere, anywhere that's out of the way, and leave it to deflate over a few days. Unless I'm incredibly mad and don't want to look at it afterwards, in which case I go to some secluded place outdoors and release it, again asking the Lord and Lady to make sure that my anger is released gently, so it doesn't hit some poor kid in the face when he or she finds the balloon and decides to play!
It's really daft, and I do feel silly when I'm doing it, but blowing up balloons is kind of fun, and it really does stop me getting too mad and doing something I'd regret. So apart from the side effect of having millions of balloons floating around various corners of Ireland, plus the odd one hidden in different corners of my room, it really is a help :)
