My wife and I just rented this one over the weekend.
Brilliant brilliant movie! It's so great, I'm going to have to buy it... Soon!
The film centers around racism and stereotypes, using several different ethnicities in Los Angeles as the backdrop.
There are about a dozen characters which the film focuses around. At the beginning, I was somewhat overwhelmed by the number of characters the viewer has to keep track of. However, as the movie progressed, it became easier and easier.
What makes this film different than most race-based movies is that you see both sides of each and every character. No one is truly "evil" and no one is without their own prejudices. Just like in life, there is a lot of gray. Even the two most blantaly racist characters (Sandra Bullock and Matt Dillon) have a silver-lining. Everyone learns something from the experiences they face as their lives intertwine with each other.
Every character is incredibly fascinating. There's an extremely tense scene in particular, which I can't seem to get out of my head. It involves a Hispanic lock-smith character, and an Indian (I believe he was Indian) shop owner. It's brilliantly done, and will probably remain with you for a few days.
