I really liked Panda too. We saw it last week and I thought it was a pretty excellent film. I absolutely loved when he tried to steal the brick as a souvenir. His unabashed love and admiration for the Furious Five could play on any fanboy of any genre. I was also a big fan of the dumpling duel. I would say if you have any appreciation for todays animated family movies this is a definite must see. Jack Black's voice and charisma is well suited for these types of movies.

Dad and I decided to take in a movie for Father's Day and I let him pick. To my utter shock he picked You Don't Mess With the Zohan! I was totally expecting to see Indy Jones or The Happening but he pulled the wild card. Zohan is definitely one of Sandler's dumber films. That's not to say that it's not funny because it is hilarious in spots but it is definitely dumb! The plot is fairly simply: Zohan is an Israeli counter-terrorist and the best in his field. He fakes his death at the hands of his arch nemesis, the Palestinian terrorist, The Phantom (played by an hysterical John Turturro) so that he can flee to America and become a hairdresser. But once he gets to America he discovers that it's not easy to break into his field and that his ideas of popular hairstyles are about 25 years out of date. He finds a shop on the "Palestinian side of the street", posing as an Australian/Tibetan and styles his 80's dos on the heads of elderly women in a sexual fashion. Afterwards he gives the ladies a happy ending and the there's a line around the block of old women wanting to be "done" by the Zohan. Everyone seems to be okay with this even though it's, well, prostitution. His new local celebrity eventually gets him noticed by an Arab taxi driver played by Rob Schneider. He was once slighted by Zohan and wants not only revenge but wants to be the man who kills Zohan and becomes famous for it. Have you got all that? Too convoluted for you?

Aside for the numerous Hummus jokes there were actually some great jokes and they actually a stab at some political commentary regarding racial stereotyping in America, relations between Palestinians and Israelis (and how they may have more in common than you think) and the never-ending and ridiculous war in the middle east. It was an interesting addition to a movie with no real brains at all.

Overall, it's worth a rental or even waiting for cable but don't rush out to see The Zohan. Now eat your hummus.
