The other day, I went and had my car washed for the first time in probably three months. I drive a long way to work and most of what I drive is littered with construction zones and flying dirt from construction sites. My car usually has an 1/8th of an inch of dirt on it at all times. I got sick of it.

I got the mid-level wash that included the clear coat wax and the wheel brite applicator. Afterward, I mopped up the runaway drips and purchased a strawberry kiwi air freshener to drown out the smell of stale lunch the occasional fart that lingers a little too long. I drove the car home and parked it in my garage. It sparkled and shined under the garage opener's light. I don't really like the car much but for one moment, I thought it was beautiful.

Much like Bob Seger, I woke that night to the sound of thunder. I hoped that if it was raining that it would end and the pavement would dry before I left for work the next morning. I awoke later and got dressed for work. I opened the garage door and smelled the sweet smell of rain. Sure enough, it was drizzling.

I got to work. The windshield now bore wiper marks and dirt from the dirty mist ejected from under the wheels of the numerous dumptrucks I seem to get behind every morning. I stood at the back door of my building and looked at the car. The water beaded and rolled off the side of the car. Dirt and grime had splattered up and caked on the lower half of my car door. My wheels were no longer "brite".

If you've ever been in my shoes, you know the depression I felt that day. It was the same depression I felt after seeing the movie "Saw."

Don't see this movie. It will just ruin your day.
