I've thought about this many times, and for me it would have to be River God, by Wilbur Smith.
Probably the Best book I've ever read, and it's supposed to be based on 4000 yr old transcripts found in the tomb of an Egyptian Queen.
They're written by Taita, the queens lifelong slave, a brilliant man who can do just about anything, Just ask him.
I say just about, coz he's a eunich, lol
