Pulp Fiction still holds a place in my heart because it came out a couple of years after I graduated high school and I was in that experimental stage where I was trying to find some direction in life. There were a lot of influences around me, on television, in the movies, on the radio, etc., that was kind of skewing my perception of life. When Pulp came out, I saw it on opening night just because the media buzz around it was ridiculous.

At the time, again, I was finding my way around adulthood, it was one of the most unusual and incredible films I have ever seen. I just loved how the characters talked and acted in that film. It was as if it was from another universe. I thought Samuel Jackson was the coolest man on earth, and he held that title for a few years until he started making shitty movies. Even John Travolta was cool in the film and he hadn't been cool since the late 70's. Ving Rhames getting raped?!?! Unheard of! Up till that point, I had never seen anything like it.

Afterwards, I began to explore cinema. I discovered independent film, directors, writers, etc. I really began to dive into movies and really get some meaning out of them. I mean, what the hell is so great about Forrest Gump or Titanic when you have Fearless and Shawshank Redemption, movies with true feeling and emotion. Not manufactured emotion like in the former two films.

I guess Pulp Fiction paved the way for me being a movie fan. I realize now that it's not a perfect film, but it's still one of my favorites for sentimental reasons, plus I think it's pretty damned good.
