The sonnet first appears to be about a rather unattractive, ordinary woman. The reader is lead to belive that by the statements Shakespears makes, that he doesn't like her at all. However, this completly changes with the last two rather romantic lines, which say that their love is rare, and even true, because he loves her for who she is and does not falsely compare her with beautiful things she is unlike.
With this unusual set-up, Shakespeare is not only proclaiming his 'true' love for a woman, but is also mocking other poets's explaination of their love, when they compare their woman to such things as a godess or a rose, which they are almost certianly not like.
